About
The Cabbagetown Youth Centre (CYC) and Boxing Club have a rich history dating back to 1972, when they first opened their doors at 2 Lancaster Avenue. Created to provide positive opportunities for local youth, the Centre quickly grew into a vibrant community hub, using sports, recreation, and education to help young people build skills, confidence, and brighter futures.
Over the decades, CYC expanded its programs to support personal growth, social connection, and meaningful community engagement. By 2020, however, the Centre faced the possibility of closing its doors. Through strong community support and shared values, CYC joined BGC Toronto Kiwanis (BGCTK), and the building proudly reopened in 2022.
This partnership was a natural fit, uniting two organizations committed to empowering youth and strengthening neighbourhoods. The legacy of CYC, including the boxing club founded by Peter Wylie in 1972, continues under BGCTK’s leadership, ensuring that the programs cherished by generations of participants remain accessible, relevant, and rooted in community.
